Shonda Rhimes’ (Grey’s Anatomy) new show Scandal is set in the fast-paced world of high-level crisis management and is ripe with plenty of political intrigue.
Kerry Washington, the show’s star, plays Olivia Pope, a high-powered D.C.-based “fixer” who has resolved some of the country’s biggest scandals. She was the President’s communications director and go-to girl, and is now running her own outfit that caters to the who’s who of Washington, D.C., and beyond.
Olivia Pope and Associates staff includes Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick), a womanizer considering settling down, Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), a smooth and efficient litigator, Abby Whelan, (Darby Stanchfield), the firm’s investigator, Huck (Guillermo Diaz), a hacker with a CIA past, and Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes), a fresh faced lawyer quickly learning the world of crisis management.
The show is inspired by the work of real-life leading D.C. crisis management consultant Judy Smith. Her clients have included Michael Vick, Monica Lewinsky and former senator Larry Craig. Smith, played by Kerry Washington, is the co-executive producer of the show. Her first book, Good Self, Bad Self debuts this week falling in line with the season premiere of Scandal this Thursday.
