The L.A. Riots: Twenty Years Later Conference takes place on April 27th & 28th at Harvard University and rapper/producer/activist David Banner will participate in the panel discussion! The conference will combine an array of leading scholars, activists and artists who will take a look back at –and forward from- the LA Riots.
In the intimate discussion Banner will be joined by Henry Louis Gates Jr. and other panelists from Harvard University, NYU and Temple University. They will take a retrospective look at the L.A. Riots uprising and reflect on today’s democracy and inequity during this time of economic crisis and revolution in the world. The L.A. Riots took place 20 years ago and still affects America.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at Harvard…it is vital that we talk about what we can do to better ourselves and our communities; now and for the next 20 years. The people of America, especially our youth, have the power to be heard; to change legislation and positively impact our culture for generations to come.”
Speaking of our youth, Banner had the following to say about the Trayvon Martin murder…“How many times does this have to happen before we realize, we can march, we can sing, we can make songs?” Banner continued. “No. We have to do something that means something so this will never happen to another child again.”
