Jay Ellis is taking over for Pooch Hall in BET’s The Game! Ellis is playing a character named Blue, described as, “a running back and the No.1 draft pick from an Ivy League school who is highly educated and often the smartest person in the room. Although he is bright, he is still a young man who has a lot to learn about life, love and himself.”
Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of NBC’s musical drama Smash in a multi-episode arc for next season. Hudson will play Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star whose presence directly influences the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty).
Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jaiden Kaine, and Della Reese, will join Teri Polo in the cast of a TV movie titled Christmas Angel, an indie project directed by Brian Herzlinger. The story centers on Melinda Mead (Polo), a single mother raising her daughter in a small town. Mowry-Housley and Kaine will play Melinda’s bosses; no word on what Della Reese’s role will be.
Jon Michael Hill (Detroit 187) has been cast in a recurring role on the new CBS drama Elementary (a contemporary take on Sherlock Holmes) which stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes, and Lucy Liu as his sidekick, as both assist the NYPD. Hill will play a detective.
