In honor of Black Music Month, NewsOne is featuring newsmakers and celebrities talking about who most inspired them in their lives and work.  Well, famed Pastor Jamal Bryant of The Empowerment Temple in Baltimore states music is an important fixture in his chuch and personal life.  Pastor Bryant credits none other than the legendary Marvin Gaye as his musical influence.

“I think the artist that’s had the greatest impact on my manhood and my methodology would probably be Marvin Gaye,” shared Pastor Bryant.  “When he was in the studio recording the album What’s Going On, Berry Gordy begged him not to do it.  But Marvin stuck to his guns.  It really is the signature piece of his entire career, far beyond Sexual Healing.”

Pastor Bryant named Wyclef Jean, Common, Talib Kweli, and even added Nas as potential musical artist of today who could carry on Marvin’s vision.  “Depending on what moment or mood Nas is in for today, he can go that way or go in the opposite direction,” said Pastor Bryant with a chuckle.  Check out the interview below:
