Today is Janet Jackson’s 46th birthday and we are celebrating with our favorite music videos, memorable TV & Film moments and music milestones that have defined her remarkable 30 plus year career.

Janet Jackson is a Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, accomplished actress and entertainer whose musical stylings and influence have paved the way for some of today’s most recognizable female entertainers including Beyonce, Ciara, Rihanna and Britney Spears.

Aside from being the “baby” of one of music’s most iconic families—The Jacksons—she has worked tireless alongside civil and human rights organizations and HIV-AIDS research organizations like amFar.

Let’s take a look back at those moments that have defined her stellar career!

Like her brother Michael Jackson, Janet was always ahead of the curve in terms of  innovative music videos. “The Pleasure Principle” video is one example of that fact…people are still trying to work that chair move!

Janet Jackson performed her song, “What About” at the 1998 VH1 Fashion Awards. This song about domestic violence was a definitive moment in her musical career and was featured on her critically-acclaimed “Velvet Rope” album.

In 2011, Janet Jackson released her book, True You where she discussed her personal struggles with weight, self image and what it was like growing up in one of the most powerful families in music history. Janet recieved rave reviews and positive feedback from critics regarding her transperancy.

According to the LavaLizard.com, Janet Jacskon just recently inked a deal with Liongates Films to produce new movies and is currently working on new music.
